CLEVELAND - Cleveland State continued its winning ways in their first home match in nearly a month as the women's team claimed a 4-3 win over Detroit at Malaga Tennis Center on Saturday (April 9) afternoon.

CSU improves to 13-9 overall and 3-1 in the Horizon League, while Detroit falls to 11-11 and 1-4 in league play.

The Vikings jumped ahead to a 1-0 lead after picking up doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott swept past Bianca Savarino and Holly Smith with an 8-0 win, while Jenn Myers and Christine Vogelgesang edged out an 8-6 victory over Andrea Buter and Ashley Cummin.

Galon and Myers then pushed the score to 3-0 with quick wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Galon notched her 14th win on the year in a 6-2, 6-2 win over Savarino, and Jenn Myers scored her 15th victory, topping Smith 6-3, 6-0.

Detroit would not go quietly, however, claiming three wins to set up a winner-take-all match at No. 6. Senior Rebekah Bicksler gave CSU the point it needed, topping Cummins 6-1, 6-3 for the win.

"It was good to see our Rebekah [Bicksler] step up in that situation with the match on the line," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "This was a hard fought win for us. We've been playing really strong doubles matches of late, and it's been nice to get the early lead."

The women's team battles Wright State on Sunday (April 10) beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Malaga Tennis Center following a 10:00 a.m. men's match with the Raiders.
