CLEVELAND - Women's tennis wrapped up their regular season on a down note, dropping a 7-0 contest to UIC on Sunday (April 17) at Malaga Tennis Center. Despite the outcome, the Vikings head into the Horizon League Championship after their finest season in the program's history.

CSU concludes the regular season with a 14-11 overall record and a 4-3 mark in league play.

The Flames held little back in topping Cleveland State, sweeping the doubles point before claiming all six singles wins in two sets each.

"We didn't play great doubles today and our number ones got into a hole early and couldn't get back," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We got pushed around today and UIC played some tough points.

"We lost a tough conference match today, but I am so proud of the improvement we have made. We have set ourselves up to make a run in the conference tournament."

Sophomore Sarah Galon lost her first Horizon League No. 1 singles match in a close 6-3, 6-4 decision to Iris Jaklin. Galon and Morgan Ungerott also suffered their first defeat in league play at No. 1 singles.

The 14 regular season wins are the most in the program's 26-year history, while the .560 winning percentage marks the team's first above-.500 record since the 1985-86 season.

Galon concludes a tremendous regular season that saw her post a 6-1 league mark in both singles and doubles while touting a team-best 17 singles wins.

The Horizon League Championship gets underway on Friday (April 23) in Indianapolis.
