Sept. 15, 2012
Contact: Renee AdamEllen Folkers and Mengdi Liu who each won two of their three matches on the final day of action.
"We had a much better day today, finishing the tournament better than we started. I thought we were one or two matches away from having a great day, but overall we had a solid first tournament," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I thought we were definitely feeling the effects of having a depleted lineup, but everyone gave a great effort and hopefully we can build on this for next week. We have had a very deep team the last couple years and that definitely helps when it comes to fall tournaments when everyone is capable of contributing."
The day started with doubles action, as Bush and Maria Lazaris claimed the first victory for CSU in an 8-2 decision over IUPUI in the consolation bracket of Flight 1. Folkers and Liu earned the second win for the Vikings, posting an 8-6 victory over Wright State in the consolation bracket of Flight 2.
In singles action, Bush, Folkers and Liu each picked up victories in the consolation brackets of their respective flights. Bush claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over an opponent from Valparaiso in Flight 1, while Folkers earned an impressive 6-4, 6-0 win over Louisville in Flight 4, and Liu posted a 6-3, 6-1 win in Flight 5 over Valparaiso.
The Vikings will continue their fall schedule next weekend at the Bowling Green Invitational. The BGSU Invite is a two-day event, with action on Friday (Sept. 21) and Saturday (Sept. 22).
