CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at the hands of UW-Green Bay at the River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River, Ohio. Sarah Galon picked up the lone point for the Vikings (1-1, 0-1 Horizon), winning at No. 1 singles.

Galon defeated UWGB's Alexis Watson, 6-4, 6-3, to move to 2-0 on the season at No. 1 singles. Galon is also 2-0 on the season in doubles play after she teamed with Morgan Ungerott to defeat Watson and Heather Harding, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.

"I didn't really expect to be undefeated in both singles and doubles after our first conference match," Galon said. "I just tried to run down every ball, and played my hardest. Morgan and I knew what we had to do in doubles, and communicated well the whole match and kept each other going."

"I'm very surprised at how well Sarah's been playing," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I knew this would be a tougher match than the opener against St. Francis, but she played very well today against an opponent who hits a lot harder. She didn't let the pressure get to her when the sets got tight."

The Phoenix (2-0, 2-0 Horizon) picked up wins in the other two doubles matches and five singles matches. Ungerott took Harding to a second-set tiebreak before falling, 6-3, 7-6 (4). All of the other matches were finished in two sets.

"I'm encouraged at the progress that the team has made," Etzkin said. "I felt that we had chances to win at most of the singles matches, and even at the No. 3 doubles match. The doubles point was big today in getting Green Bay started, and it's going to continue to be big all season long."

The Vikings have a week off before traveling to Buffalo on Sat., Oct. 11.
