TOLEDO, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team had several solid performances in day one of the Toledo Rocket Invitational on Friday at the Laurel Hill Tennis Club. "I thought we had a pretty soild day on the court," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We had not played in a competition in two weeks, but I felt we competed well and hung tough mentally and physically. We may have been a little tired because we had players that played two doubles matches and a singles match, but that was a testament to them hanging in there and battling through." Catrine Bjerrehus earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Monique Burton of West Virginia in singles play, while Nicole Janek defeated WVU's Stephanie LaFortune, 6-4, 6-3, in singles. Janek also teamed with Sanda Bjelan to earn a tough 9-7 doubles win, while Bjerrehus and Gibbons also picked up a doubles win, 8-5, over a West Virginia duo. Action is slated to continue at the Rocket Invitational on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
