Women's Tennis Falls At Buffalo
Oct. 11, 2003 BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Cleveland State women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Buffalo on Friday night at the Amherst Hills Tennis Club, with the Bulls winning all six singles matches in straight sets. "That was clearly the toughest team we've played all season," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We had moments where we looked pretty good, but overall it was a very rough match." Sarah Galon suffered her first defeat in both singles and doubles play, falling to UB's Miglena Nenova, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. In No. 1 doubles, Galon and Morgan Ungerott fell to Nenova and Kristen Ortman, 8-0. In her singles match, Ungerott fell to Ortman, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Amanda Cerny and Paulina Reyes played a solid doubles match at No. 2 doubles, falling to Michelle Kollarova and Katrin Fischer, 8-5. Marcella Capozziello had a solid match in singles, falling at No. 5 singles to Lisa Wittman, 6-3, 6-1. "I didn't think we were out of our league at all," Etzkin said. "That was a good test for us to see where we are, and we hope to be at that level in the near future."
The Vikings will conclude their fall season on Oct. 19 with a men's and women's match against IPFW, which will begin at 1 p.m. at the Malaga Tennis Center.
