Freshman Jackie Tabb was named the women's tennis Horizon League Athlete of the Week after going 1-1 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles during the spring season opening weekend. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday (Jan. 23).

Tabb (3-11) defeated IPFW's Stacy Lish 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles on Sunday, Jan. 20. The Minneapolis, Minn. native also played No. 1 doubles with sophomore Charlotte Gibbons, opening the spring season with a 2-0 record. Tabb and Gibbons defeated Michigan State's Lindsey Lonergan and Manon Noe 8-6 for CSU's only match victory against the Spartans on Monday, Jan. 21.

"Jackie got off to a great start to the season this weekend, her singles was solid and it will only get better," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I'm sure she would like to share this award with her teammate, Charlotte Gibbons, as they beat two good doubles teams. It was encouraging to see Jackie play with confidence on the singles court and to see the Tabb and Gibbons team buy into playing aggressive tennis against excellent opponents."

Wright State's Tony Teufel won the honor on the men's side.

The Vikings host Toledo on Sunday, Jan. 27 at noon at the River Oaks Racquet Club.
