CLEVELAND, Ohio - Freshman Melissa Holzinger was named Horizon League Tennis Athlete of the Week after posting a 2-0 record at No. 1 singles at St. Bonaventure and Niagara. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday, (Feb. 6).

Holzinger, who is 6-10 at No. 1 singles, won both of her matches in straight sets last weekend. The Dallas, Texas native defeated St. Bonaventure's Yolande Callaghan 6-1, 6-1 to lead the Vikings to a 7-0 win over the Bonnies on Feb. 2 and followed that performance with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Raquel Solis of Niagara on Feb. 3.

"Melissa is definitely getting more comfortable playing top players on each team on the court," head coach Brian Etzkin said. " It was an adjustment for her to realize that she won't have an easy match at No. 1 singles. She has also improved her doubles play as well."

Cleveland State's Phil Orno won the honor on the men's side.

CSU hosts St. Francis (PA) on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the River Oaks Racquet Club.
