CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Sarah Galon capped an undefeated month of February by being named Horizon League Athlete of the Week. She has won the weekly honor twice this season. The league office made the announcement on Thursday (March 1).
Galon, who is 17-6 at No. 1 singles after going 6-0 during the month, won both of her matches in straight sets last weekend. The Waianae, Hawaii native defeated Youngstown State's Gina Peretti 6-0, 7-5 to lead the Vikings to a 4-3 win over the Penguins on Feb. 23 and then followed that performance with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kali Delorie of Robert Morris in a 7-0 CSU win on Feb. 25.
"Sarah continues to have a great season," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "She's our general on the court and she is playing like a senior should."
Teamed with freshman Denisa Muntean, Galon also won at No. 1 doubles in both matches.
The Vikings (6-5) have three matches at home this weekend, starting with a 6:00 p.m. contest against Dayton on Friday at River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River. CSU then hosts Chicago State and Oakland on Saturday beginning at noon.
