Voss Adds Five For 2016 Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State volleyball head coach Chuck Voss announced the addition of five players for the 2016 season Thursday morning, as Trinniti Hall (Orrville, Ohio), Ambre Pierce (Richmond Heights, Ohio), Sara Skeens (Wooster, Ohio), Christina Hudgens (Novi, Mich.), and Jordan Verbiak (Brunswick, Ohio) will all attend Cleveland State University beginning next fall.

All five will enter the 2016 season as freshmen, with four years of eligibility remaining.

Hall is a 5-10 middle hitter from Orrville High School who comes to Cleveland State as a three-time All-Ohioan. Hall is also a three-time First Team All-OCC selection, and a two-time District Player of the Year. Throughout her high school campaign, Hall notched 985 kills, 929 digs, and 341 blocks.

Hall led Orrville to three straight OCC championships, and a district championship this year as a senior.

Pierce, a 5-11 middle hitter from Notre Dame Cathedral Latin, will join the Vikings after a successful high school campaign, which included earning First Team All-Ohio honors as a senior. She is also a two-time First Team North Coast League honoree, and the reigning NCL MVP. As a junior, Pierce led her team to a state championship, picking up First Team All-District and News Herald honors, along with Second Team All-State accolades.

The past two seasons, Pierce has led the NCL in hitting percentage (.462 – 2015 & .473 – 2014) and has ranked second among Division II players in the state of Ohio. She also ranked third in the NCL in kills as a junior (261) and fifth as a senior (196).

Pierce played her club volleyball for AVC during 2014 and 2015 and will play the upcoming season with East Side Juniors.

Skeens is a 5-11 outside hitter from Triway High School who will join the Cleveland State program after a standout high school campaign. She is a two-time PAC 7 Player of the Year, four-time All-Ohioan, and District 4 Player of the Year. Skeens has also picked up PAC 7 and District 4 First Team accolades throughout her prep career.

Over her four seasons at Triway, Skeens has combined for 1,840 kills and 278 service aces, leading Triway to three straight PAC 7 championships along with a district title and eighth place finish at the state tournament as a sophomore.

Skeens has played her club volleyball for NOVA, picking up a pair of top-15 finishes at Nationals during the 2012-13 and 2014-15 seasons, while the team finished first in its bracket at the AAU/JVA during 2010-11.

Hudgens, a 5-10 setter from Novi High School, joins the Vikings after a successful prep campaign. She has led Novi to three straight Kensington Lakes Athletic Association championships, along with a district and regional title as a junior. Hudgens also helped Novi to a Class A State Runner-Up finish during the 2014 season.

Hudgens plays her club volleyball for Legacy 18-National, and led her team to a fifth place finish at the AAU Nationals last year.

Verbiak is a 5-3 defensive specialist from Brunswick High School who picked up Honorable Mention All-Ohio accolades following her senior season. As a junior, she earned First Team All-Greater Cleveland Conference honors and Second Team All-District accolades. She also earned Honorable Mention All-GCC accolades as a sophomore, and picked up All-Gazette honors as a sophomore and junior.

As a sophomore, Verbiak broke the school record for digs in a season with 305, and then shattered her own record the following year with 520 digs as a junior. At the end of her senior season, Verbiak had over 1,400 digs on her career.

Verbiak has played her club volleyball for Maverick, leading the team to a pair of OVR Regional championships and four trips to the National Tournament.
