CLEVELAND, Ohio – After leading the Cleveland State volleyball team to its third Horizon League Tournament title, sophomore middle hitter Alexis Middlebrooks was named the Horizon League Tournament MVP, while senior Dayna Roberts and junior Grace Kauth were named to the All-Tournament Team.
During Cleveland State's two matches at the league tournament, Middlebrooks posted 23 kills on a .340 hitting percentage (23-5-53) along with 14 total blocks. Against Northern Kentucky in the semifinals, Middlebrooks notched a team-high 16 kills and tallied eight blocks. Middlebrooks then followed this up with seven kills and six blocks against Valparaiso in the championship match.
Roberts led the Viking defense on the weekend, combining for 27 digs against Northern Kentucky and Valparaiso. Cleveland State's libero tallied 13 digs against Northern Kentucky and followed that up with 14 against Valparaiso, finishing the Horizon League Tournament with 1,200 career digs – just the fourth Viking all-time to surpass 1,200 digs on their career.
Kauth was strong on both sides of the ball throughout the Horizon League Tournament, posting a team-high 27 kills along with 24 digs. She recorded double-doubles in both matches – 13 kills and 12 digs against Northern Kentucky in the semifinals and 14 kills and 12 digs against Valparaiso in the championship. Against the Norse, Kauth became the 16th Viking all-time to notch 1,000 career kills, finishing the tournament with 1,025 kills on her career.
