CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State volleyball head coach Chuck Voss announced the 2019 schedule Monday morning, including an 11-match non-league slate and a 10-match home schedule.
In one of their most challenging schedules in recent years, the Vikings will face eight postseason teams from last year, seven teams that recorded 20-win campaigns during 2018, and four teams that finished the year ranked or receiving votes in the final Top-25 poll.
To open the 2019 campaign, the Vikings will participate in the Panther Challenge, taking on a trio of NCAA teams from a year ago. The first match of the year will put the Vikings up against Pittsburgh (Aug. 30), while they will also face South Carolina (Aug. 31) and Cincinnati (Aug. 31) throughout the two-day event.
Next up for Cleveland State will be the Hampton Inn Bowling Green Invitational, where the Vikings will face Butler (Sept. 6), Charlotte (Sept.6) and the host Falcons (Sept. 7).
The Vikings will then face another tough field at the Bluegrass Battle, going up against a pair of 2018 NCAA Tournament teams in Kentucky (Sept. 13) and Florida Gulf Coast (Sept. 14), while also facing Indiana (Sept. 13) during the two-day tournament.
Cleveland State will play in the friendly confines of Woodling Gymnasium for the first time during the 2019 season on Friday, September 20, hosting Niagara and Kent State to close out the non-league portion of its schedule.
The Vikings will begin their 16-match Horizon League slate on the road, traveling to IUPUI (Sept. 27) and Northern Kentucky (Sept. 28) to open #HLVB play.
Over the last four years, Cleveland State has recorded a 51-13 record in regular season league matches, and has captured three regular season #HLVB titles during this span.
Cleveland State will host Milwaukee (Oct. 4) and Green Bay (Oct. 5) in the first home #HLVB series of the season, before traveling to Wright State (Oct. 9) for a midweek matchup to continue league play.
The Vikings will then return to Woodling Gym for a three-match homestand against UIC (Oct. 13), Youngstown State (Oct. 18) and Oakland (Oct. 19) to close out the first half of league play.
To begin the second part of the #HLVB slate the Vikings will face a four-game roadswing, traveling to Green Bay (Oct. 25), Milwaukee (Oct. 26), Youngstown State (Nov. 1), and Oakland (Nov. 2).
