Meghan Mental provides the Vikings with an experienced backrow player and can give the team a lift with her high energy level. A solid passer with good ball control skills, Mental has outstanding instincts on defense that help keep plays alive. She has been able to grow and become accustomed to the collegiate game during her first two years and could be counted on to fill a larger role in the backrow this season.
2008 SEASON (SOPHOMORE)
Played in 17 matches, all coming in a reserve role as a defensive specialist.
Finished season with 40 digs, 10 assists and five aces.
Made just 10 receiving errors in 83 chances (.880).
Produced nine digs with three assists and one ace in a win at Green Bay (11/8).
Had six digs vs. Kansas (9/12) and added seven at Northwestern (9/6).
2007 SEASON (FRESHMAN)
Tallied 140 digs and 15 service aces in 28 matches.
Recorded double-digit digs in four matches and at least five digs on 17 occasions.
Had 11 digs and career-high three aces versus UMKC (9/8).
Notched career-best 12 digs at Wright State (9/14).
Had 11 digs in five-set win over regular season champion Milwaukee (9/29).
HIGH SCHOOL
First team all-conference and second team all-district selection as a senior playing for coach Dawn Moses.
Three-year letterwinner who led team to a 72-8 record from 2004-06.
Played on three conference championship teams and two distrcit championships squads.
Led team to Elite 8 as a sophomore and senior and Sweet 16 appearance as a junior.
Set school-record for digs as a senior.
PERSONAL
Born May 23, 1989 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Daughter of Sue Kraus and Mick Mental.
Has a brother, Mickey, and two sisters, Addie and Bridget.
Mickey plays football at Baldwin-Wallace, while Addie is a basketball player at BW.
Named Math Student of the Year as a freshman and sophomore.
Selected as Advance Biology Student of the Year as a junior.
Earned CSU's Athletic Academic Excellence Award in 2008 and 2009.
Planning to major in mathematics.
