Offensively the Vikings were led by senior Kara Koch who notched 18 kills, while Marie Frease added nine and Maggie Hannon and Kerry Winchester each tallied eight kills. Dayna Roberts posted a match-high 16 digs, while Amanda Medvetz added 10 and Annie Djukic tallied 40 assists to captain the Viking offense. During the opening set, Cleveland State and Kent State battled back and forth until the middle of the frame when the Golden Flashes were able to gain a three-point lead. Behind kills from Frease, Koch, Winchester and Jackie Dabbelt the Vikings were able to tie the set at 16-16 and were then able to told the Flashes in check until they finally pulled out the 26-24 victory on a pair of Kent State errors.
The Vikings claimed an easy 25-15 win during the second set, holding at least a three-point lead for the second half of the frame after gaining a 16-12 advantage. During the second frame CSU notched a .393 hitting percentage, which included four kills each from Koch and Hannon, who marked a career-high with her eight kills on the match. The third set was much like the first, with Kent State jumping out to a 7-3 lead and the Vikings battling back to tie the set at 10-10. From this point on, CSU held the advantage for the rest of the set and the Vikings were able to close out the match with three straight points from a pair of Koch kills and a Djukic kill. Cleveland State will close out the IPFW Invitational tomorrow, as the Vikings face the host Mastodons at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 5:00 p.m. contest against Murray State.
