CLEVELAND, Ohio - Back on the floor less than three hours after an emotional five-set win over Syracuse, Cleveland State was dealt a 3-0 setback by 20th-ranked Michigan State in the final match of the CSU Invitational-Presented by the Crowne Plaza City Centre on Saturday afternoon at Woodling Gym.

    Match scores were 25-18, 25-17, 25-20.

The Spartans won the tournament with a 3-0 mark, while the Vikings finished as the runner-up at 1-2. Syracuse finished the tournament 0-2.

"We played in such an emotional match earlier in the day, we just didn't have anything left this afternoon," head coach Chuck Voss said. "Michigan State is a great team, well coached and they were in system all day. The loss does not take away anything we did this weekend because we earned a tough five-set win and played two good matches with a nationally-ranked team."

Lindsey Griffith led the Vikings with seven kills and five digs, while Liz Fazio added six kills. Jordan Goad handed out 20 assists with five kills, while Maggie Bonomini finished with eight digs.

Bonomini and Goad were both named to the all-tournament team.

Becca Zlabis paced MSU with 12 kills, while Natalie Embro recorded 32 assists, eight kills and five digs.

CSU will return to action next weekend when the Vikings play three matches at the Western Carolina Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 11-12).
