Final Stats

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State spikers peppered visiting Oakland with 15 service aces as the Vikings (3-2) rolled over the Golden Grizzlies 30-23, 30-22 and 30-19 in the final match of the evening Friday at the Cleveland State Invitational at Woodling Gymnasium.

Junior Lori Betchker (Amherst, Ohio/Steele) did the most damage, slicing a career-high six aces past Oakland (2-3) while fellow juniors Michelle Iafigliola (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and Kristine Dabbelt (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) whistled in four aces apiece.

In addition, Iafigliola knocked down a game-high 16 kills, committing just one error in 26 attempts for a stellar .577 hitting efficiency. She also recorded a game-high 16 digs. In addition, freshman Jamie Bouyer (Bedford Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) pegged 12 kills.

Cloretta Porter led Oakland with 12 kills.

As a team, the Vikes hit .325 (55K-15E-120TA) compared to .165 (34K-17E-103TA) for the Golden Grizzlies.

Earlier in the day, CSU downed Niagara 3-1 while Oakland lost a five-game heartbreaker to Towson, 3-2. In other action, Towson also downed Canisius 3-1.

Action in the Cleveland State Invitational resumes Saturday morning a 9:30 a.m. Cleveland State's first match will be against Canisius at 12 noon and the Vikings close out the tournament by facing Towson at 7:30 p.m.
