Sept. 23, 2005

Final Stats

INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State had more kills, more blocks and more aces, but in the end Butler claimed the only stat that mattered, defeating the Vikings, 19-30, 30-27, 30-28, 17-30, 15-12, in the Horizon League opener for both schools. The Bulldogs improved to 12-0 all-time in Hinkle Fieldhouse against CSU with their nearly two-and-a-half hour victory on Friday night.

The Vikings (7-5, 0-1 HL) rallied from a 2-1 deficit in games and led 4-1 early in the fifth frame before Butler fought back in a see-saw decisive game. CSU, which hit .000 (7-7-35) in game five, found itself up 12-10 but proceeded to make three hitting errors and no kills down the stretch as the Bulldogs (6-7, 1-0 HL) closed out the match with a 5-0 run.

CSU's Nickole Kennedy tallied her first double-double of the season with a match-high 17 kills and 10 blocks, while Jenni Ramminger hit .474 with a career-high 11 kills and 10 blocks for her first career double-double. Jenna Maddocks also notched a double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs. Emily Clark added a career-high 34 digs, just three shy of the school record.

Susana Henri posted 13 kills and 16 digs to pace Butler. Michelle DeGeeter added 10 kills, while Megan Knightly had a team-best 23 digs.

Cleveland State concludes its league-opening road swing with a 4:00 p.m. contest on Saturday (Sept. 24) at Wright State.
