Final Stats

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State pushed hard on pre-season league favorite UW-Milwaukee but fell short in the upset bid as the Panthers handed the Vikings a 30-28, 33-31, 28-30, 30-28 loss Saturday afternoon at Woodling Gymnasium.

The Panthers improved to 9-5, 5-1 in the Horizon League while the Vikings dropped to 5-9, 0-4.

Three Vikings hit double digit kills, led by junior outside hitter Michelle Iafigliola with a match-high 20. Freshman middle blocker Jamie Bouyer put down 16 while junior outside hitter Lori Betchker added 11.

Betchker, who ranked 11th nationally last week in service aces, sliced UWM with five aces. She also collected a match-high 15 digs while Iafigliola contributed 14.

However, four Panthers also hit double digits, paced by Chrissy Schurla with 18. Schurla also led UWM with 12 digs.

For the match, Cleveland State hit .262 (68K-20E-183TA) while UWM hit .225 (70K-28E-187TA).
