INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State junior volleyball player Kayla Lefeld has been selected as the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 12.

Horizon League commissioner Jon LeCrone made the announcement on Friday, Oct. 17, afternoon.

A native of St. Henry, Ohio, Lefeld averaged 4.31 points per set and had three straight doubles-doubles in helping the Vikings to a 2-1 mark last week. The outside hitter totaled 40 kills, 39 digs, five aces and five assists as CSU defeated Youngstown State on Tuesday and Green Bay on Saturday before falling to Milwaukee on Sunday.

Lefeld carries a 3.78 grade point average as a middle childhood education major. She has earned CSU's Scholar-Athlete Award in each of her first two seasons.

The Horizon League instituted the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes.

To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the week's competition.

Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
