CLEVELAND - On the court, senior outside hitter Jenna Maddocks has helped the Cleveland State volleyball team to its best record in two decades. On Thursday, she was recognized for her work in the classroom. Maddocks, who carries a 3.98 GPA in early childhood education, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV first team for volleyball.

A Norwalk, Ohio native, Maddocks was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Oct. 24 and ranks ninth in the league in hitting percentage (.249). She has recorded a team-high eight double-doubles on the year, including an 18-kill, 22-dig effort in a five-game win over Wright State on Oct. 21.

The vice-president of CSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council, Maddocks is also the secretary for the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, a member of Golden Key and a three-time recipient of CSU's Athletic Academic Excellence Award.

The Academic All-District Team is a part of the Academic All-America program, which is administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America. As a first team selection, Maddocks will appear on the national ballot for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Volleyball team.

Cleveland State (17-9, 9-3 HL) closes out the regular season this weekend at UIC (Nov. 11) and at Loyola (Nov. 12). With one win, the Vikings can secure the second seed for the upcoming Horizon League Championship and with it, the accompanying bye into the semifinals. Hosted this year by UIC, the tournament begins on Nov. 17 and runs through the 20th.
