CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State senior Beth Greulich and sophomore Jordan Goad were two of the 14 players named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Midwest All-Region Team announced late this week. In addition, senior Liz Fazio was selected to the honorable mention team. "This is a tremendous honor for these three players and one that they all deserve," head coach Chuck Voss said. "It is a great way for Beth and Liz to cap their careers and shows that Jordan is one of the top setters in the entire region. Their selections to the all-region are a sign that our program has increased in visibility and stature." Greulich, a right side hitter from Troy, Ohio, capped her final season by becoming just the second player in school history to earn Horizon League Player of the Year honors. She led the league in attack percentage (.328), while also ranking fifth in kills (3.34) and sixth in point (3.76). Goad, a sophomore setter from Toledo, Ohio, guided the Viking offense to a league-best and school record .247 attack percentage. She led the Horizon League in assists (10.92), while also ranking second in service aces (0.33). Fazio, a senior outside hitter from Coventry, Ohio, was the Vikings top outside hitter and arguably the one of the top all-around players in the Horizon League this season. She finished third in the league in kills (3.60) and fifth in points (4.01), while also finishing second on the team with 331 digs. All three players are earning a selection to the all-region team for the first time in their careers. They are the first players from CSU to earn a selection to the AVCA all-region team since 2007 when Mel Snyder and Amy Benz were both selected.
The trio were half of the six players from the Horizon League named to the all-region team. Butler's Jessica Wolfe and Wright State's Shaunda Sandifer joined Greulich and Goad on the all-region team, while Youngstown State's Ruth Boscaljon was an honorable mention pick. Cleveland State recently completed its best season in over two decades, posting a 26-7 overall record, while capturing its first-ever Horizon League regular season championship. |
