INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After picking up a 4-3 victory at Sam Houston State in the final match of the annual Spring Break Trip last week, the Cleveland State women's tennis team has swept the Horizon League Weekly honors, picking up Singles Player and Doubles Team of the Week.
Isabella Spindler was named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week, picking up the second weekly honor of her career and the first of the 2016-17 season. Spindler posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the top of the singles lineup, leading the Vikings to their sixth dual match win of the season.
"Isabella has been playing at the top of the singles lineup for us throughout the majority of the spring season and is continuing to improve her game day-in and day-out," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "She was able to pick up a quality win for us against Sam Houston State and is beginning to peak at the right time heading into Horizon League play."
On the Spring Season, Spindler owns a 5-9 singles record, with all five of her victories coming at No. 1 singles. Entering Horizon League play, Spindler has won two of her last three matches.
The duo now owns a team-best 6-6 record this spring, including a 3-2 mark at No. 1 doubles. Entering league play, Bensimon and Schober have won two straight doubles matches, and six of their last 10.
"Our doubles play has been getting better and better over the last few weeks, and Victoria and Jana have been one of our top doubles teams during this stretch," Polito said. "They are continuing to grow as a doubles team and have been playing well together over the last few matches, and they are looking forward to continuing this strong play during the league slate."
Cleveland State will begin Horizon League play this weekend, hosting UIC (Saturday, March 25) and Valparaiso (Sunday, March 26) in the first of two homestands during league action.
